Rod Erickson

ROD ERICKSON

Yodeler...Singer...Song Writer...Entertainer

Introducing a truly great entertainer who recorded his first yodel song in the early 70's following a year of training under the renowned opera instructor, Dr. Jean Wardian, Head of the Gonzaga University Music Department in Spokane, Washington.

His first release after signing with MGM records was "She Taught Me How To Yodel".   This song reached the "Top Ten" world wide within a month.  This release was followed with "Yodel Sweet Molly", "Cattle Call" and "Cannonball Yodel" all three making the charts. In 1976 "Going Home" a song he wrote, went "Top Ten" in Canada and had the biggest reaction ever for a Country song in that country.  He was "Top Pick" in Billboard Magazine, and considered a virtuoso in yodeling; "The Best" by the Gavin Report.

Rod has made many TV appearances and was on WSM's Ralph Emery Show, as well as Paul Harvey's "The Rest Of The Story".  He was on the MGM Show in Nashville, and toured the Southeastern States with Grandpa Jones, Stringbean and others from the Grand Ole Opery.  Other stars he worked with include Tammy Wynette, Marty Robbins, Bill Anderson, Mel Tillis, George Jones, Lefty Frizzel, Jerry Lee Lewis and many more.

Rod and Nancy own the Fireside Lodge, a B&B, Restaurant, RV Park and Recording Studio in Spirit Lake, Idaho.  During the summer months while in Idaho, the Fireside Lodge becomes the music center of the Northwest, with visitors and participants attending from miles around.

The Fireballs - Two Great Shows!!
 Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

The Fireballs

Hailing from Raton, New Mexico in the late 50's,
the Fireballs were New Mexico's first Rock & Roll
recording band to become internationally known.

The group was christened the FIREBALLS® after their standing ovation performance of "Great Balls of Fire" at the Raton High School PTA talent contest in New Mexico, USA...January 1958. By the year's end they had auditioned for the late Norman Petty at his already internationally famous recording studio at 1313 W. 7th Street, Clovis, New Mexico, where it stands today - a monumental contribution to the birth of early Southwest style Rock & Roll.

Coupled with a new vocalist, Jimmy Gilmer, the Fireballs savored success in a new dimension. "Sugar Shack" on DOT records was a #1 hit and the largest selling single of the year. More vocal singles and albums followed. It was a very unique transition in the music business for an 'instrumental guitar band' to become 'vocal' and retain prestige in both fields.

Besides their own recordings, Petty recruited the Fireballs as studio musicians for other recording artist projects. Among many, folk singer Carolyn Hester and Arthur Alexander. It was during this time that Petty orchestrated the group through the task of musically enhancing the Buddy Holly 'apartment tapes' which surfaced after Holly's death.

The late 60's found the Fireballs on ATCO records with more chart singles and albums. Gilmer's gutsy lead vocal along with the backup vocals from the Fireballs sang their way to another top 10 tune with "Bottle Of Wine" followed closely by "Come On React", of which albums were released under each of the titles.

Their Current recordings of traditional 50's/60's style guitar instrumentals, vocals, and their own brand of country-rock music reflect trace influences of Mexican and 'western' music dominant in the Southwest prior to the start of their recording career.

Fireballs recordings and songs are heard in the soundtracks of the following films: Forrest Gump, Mermaids, Congo, Dogfight, From Dusk Till Dawn, Box Of Moonlight, The Real Blonde, with others being negotiated for upcoming films.

Kerry Christensen, Alpine and Western Yodeler -
Friday, January 29, 2010 at 7 p.m.

Kerry Christensen

Kerry Christensen is not your typical yodeler.  His concerts and events this year will take him to as many as 23 US states and two or three countries internationally.  Kerry spent two years in the country of Austria right out of high school.  There he became interested in the alpine yodeling art.  After mastering this difficult medium he was asked in l983 to move his six member family to Orlando, Florida and use his yodeling skills at Walt Disney World's Epcot Center.  He performed there for almost seven years until 1990.

Today Kerry performs all kinds of corporate, festival, and community concert events.  He recently lent his unique classical yodeling talent to a full-length Disney animated feature called "Home on the Range."

Kerry is perhaps the only full time yodeler in the world that specializes in all styles of yodeling.  He can be strictly alpine, or he can put on his Stetson hat and do an all-cowboy yodeling show.  However, many of Kerry's fans say that their favorite show is when Kerry mixes up the styles.  You will hear cowboy, alpine, cajun, Latin, Jewish, Hawaiian, jazz, classical, and his always popular humorous yodeling renditions.

Igor's Jazz Cowboys -
Friday, February 5, 2010 at 7 p.m.

Igor's Jass Band
Igor's Jazz Cowboys

Believe it or not, "Glenn's Cowboys" actually traffic in old-time jazz, reviving the music that first made Louis Armstrong and Bob Wills legends. While they don't play the old songs "note for note," they stick to the roots of music and offer their own perspective.

Igor Glenn, on string bass and vocals, Bruno Bruzzese on fiddle, John Cieslak on reeds, Steve Clark on drums, Mark Meschino on trumpet, Gaylan Taylor, guitar and vocals, and Bob Williams, trombonist.

For those of you who don't know, Igor's Jazz Cowboys play acoustic Western Swing accompanied by a hot horn section.  Just imagine Roy Rogers singing with Louis Armstrong's boys - you get the picture.  With roots stretching from the Great Southwest all the way to New Orleans, Jazz Cowboy music is sure to get your feet stomping.

The one with the handlebar mustache and beard?  That's Igor.  Not only can he play the upright bass, banjo, guitar and piano; but he can sing beyond 3 octaves.
